D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital opened a new Women's Center
Women's Center Now Open

December 17, 2013

BREWTON, AL - D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital opened a new Women's Center on December 12 featuring a new digital mammography machine, renovated exam rooms and private dressing rooms.

"We began the renovation project in October," said Kathy McGill, radiology manager. "We are very excited to be able to offer digital mammography to our patients."

The renovation began October 24 and includes a complete face lift of the space to include private dressing rooms, waiting room and office space. With the renovation comes a new name: The Women's Center of D.W. McMillan Hospital. But as McGill stated earlier, the best part of the project is D.W. McMillan's new digital mammography machine.

According to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women will get breast cancer in her lifetime. Early detection of breast cancer is the single most important factor to surviving this disease. If the cancer is found early, the five year survival rate is 98 percent.

Hospital administrator, Chris Griffin, stated, "We wanted to make our Women's Center as comfortable as possible for the patient. Our team has done an excellent job in taking one more step to helping women fight against breast cancer. The key is getting examined."

Both Griffin and McGill urged that everyone should tell friends and family to schedule an appointment or at least call for more information. If you are interested in having a mammogram, your doctor can schedule an appointment by calling (251) 809-8127.
