BREWTON, AL - Ruthie Cooper is the American Cancer Society's Community Volunteer of the Year. On May 21, Ruthie Cooper was presented with the "2012-2013 Community Volunteer of the Year" award for her endless support throughout the years.

Each year, the American Cancer Society staff nominates outstanding volunteers in each community to receive the "Community Volunteer of the Year" award. A selection committee then chooses those volunteers that are leaders in their community who go above and beyond to support the American Cancer Society.

"On behalf of the American Cancer Society, I would like to sincerely thank Ruthie Cooper and the staff of D. W. McMillan for their hard work and dedication to the American Cancer Society and the fight against cancer," stated Christy Sexton, American Cancer Society spokesperson.

The 2014 Relay for Life of Escambia-Brewton was held March 8. Over $25,000 was raised for the American Cancer Society to support the fight against cancer. On May 21, D.W. McMillan was presented with the 2014 Relay For Life Top Corporate Fundraiser award for raising almost $6,000

"We are very happy for Ruthie and the dedication she has shown to supporting the American Cancer Society," said Chris Griffin, hospital administrator. "Ruthie and her team's hard work is a testament to the dedication D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital has towards our community."
