Brewton, AL - D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital (DWM) Announces Plans for New Brewton Based Primary Care Physician Practice

D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital announced today the plans to open its new Brewton based primary care physician practice on August 1, 2020. The new practice will be named the D.W. McMillan Medical Center and will be located in the physician office complex at the Brewton Medical Center. The hospital has been working closely on transition plans with The Brewton Medical Center Physician Group.

"This is an exciting time for the healthcare of Escambia County Alabama," stated Rick Owens, Administrator at D.W. McMillan. "By aligning the physician clinic directly with the hospital, we will work together to streamline purchasing, electronic records, employee pools, physician recruitment and medical reimbursements. The viability of our health care system has definitely taken a step forward."

The D.W. McMillan Medical Center will initially include current physicians: Dr. Paul LoDuca, Dr. Elizabeth Low, Dr. James Walker, and Dr. Maria Villarreal. Recruiting developments for additional family practice physicians and an OB/GYN are anticipated and will be announced over the coming months.

"We must continue to review healthcare practices across our system and find avenues for improvement," stated Dr. James Walker, Chief of Staff at DWM. "We have a wonderful opportunity to coordinate the work of two important institutions in our community; this alignment will provide stability and ensure the long-term success of our healthcare system."

The Escambia County Healthcare Authority (ECHCA) officials indicated that the goal is to create a seamless transition for area patients. Many changes are taking place behind the scenes, but the patient experience will not be interrupted, only improved.

"Quality patient care is still our number one priority," stated Chris Griffin, ECHCA CEO. "The administration at D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital is working closely with our local physicians to create a seamless as possible transition to the new physician clinic."
