Business Office

Being hospitalized or undergoing a medical procedure can be stressful. We know that often the most complex and stressful parts of your hospital experience are the billing and insurance details. At D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital our business office staff is dedicated to provide the close personal attention you need to make the resolution of your account as convenient as possible.

Typically there are several questions regarding the registration and billing process:

What will my insurance cover?
All insurance plans are private contracts between the patient and their insurance company. Before undergoing a medical procedure or being hospitalized, familiarize yourself with the terms of your insurance coverage. You will be responsible for co-payments, deductibles, coinsurance, and other non-covered services that your insurance does not pay at the time of registration. If you are seen in the ER you medical screening exam will be provided first and your co-payment or payment will be requested after it is completed.

What do I need to bring to register?
Picture ID
Insurance Card
Payment if owed

Will I receive only one bill?
You may receive more than one bill from a hospital visit. You will receive a bill from the hospital with hospital charges. You may also receive bills from physicians you saw (your doctor or the surgeon) or from doctors you may not have seen or remember seeing (radiologist, pathologist, or emergency room doctors). If you have questions about the bill please call the number on the statement.

What are my Payment Options?
You can pay with Cash, personal check, money order, and debit card, Visa, Master Card, American Express or Discover.

What if I cannot pay in full or I am uninsured?
For you convenience, D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital provides Financial Counselors to answer your questions concerning payment arrangements, insurance coverage, uncompensated care or assist you with Financial Assistance/Charity applications. You can call 251-322-1960 or 251-809-8273 to speak to a representative.

Price Transparency

We encourage all patients to find out as much as they can about the cost of their care before coming to the hospital. If you have insurance, you should check with your insurance company to find out if the service is covered and what your co-payments and deductibles might be. The same is true if you're on Medicaid or Medicare. If you don't have health coverage, call the Hospital Business Office and ask to speak with a patient care representative. This person can provide estimates of your bill and work with you to come up with a plan for payment. Based on the information you provide, you may be able to get financial assistance.
